So, um, that meme thing where you post a line/snippet/thing from all the WIPs you have lying around on your hard drive? I'm doing that, in the hope that it'll actually make me write something. Having a little trouble with that at the moment.

Only posting ones that might have a chance of being completed sometime, someday. If you feel inclined to guess the characters/fandoms/what they're about where it isn't obvious, go ahead. ;)

1. "Oh, c'mon. You're not telling me you never get sick."

"Actually, no. It's just a matter of taking the proper precautions."

"Are there any precautions I can take against being lectured by unsolicited guests when all I really want to do is read something that won't occupy more than a few of my brain cells for a while, and then pull the blanket up over my head and go to sleep?"

2. There is a neat symmetry in this, in the way Jon's humanity consists in echoes of the past, his own in gestures towards what might have been. The thought brings little comfort.

3. "Of course. I have forgotten my manners. Please, forgive me." The stranger smiles and stands, smoothing down the front of his robe. He bows his head, and Adrian isn't sure whether the gesture is directed at him, or at Bubastis.

4. The interviewer nods her sympathy, and changes the subject. She commends your generosity to the rebuilding effort, not only with money and resources, but your own time and expertise; your tireless efforts to raise funds and awareness, to ensure that New York is rebuilt brighter and better than before. You demur swiftly. It is only right that you should give what you can. You are no more deserving of praise than the lowliest volunteer on the ground.

The world notices the faint, dark circles round your eyes and falls a little more in love with you.

I switch off.

5. "Dan," he says, pleasantly. "It's a good thing you're here. I'm afraid I may have made something of a... misjudgement."

Then he passes out.

6. And she's good at this, dammit, it's what she does. Gets to the core of people, digs through all of their outer layers, all their defences and deflections, finds the things that make them beg and weep like babies. But Adrienne just makes this little moue of amusement, and suddenly she feels like she's the one being dug.
