“You’re sure you can remember how to work this?” Donna gestured at the makeshift chameleon arch recently installed in Torchwood’s medical centre. Amazing how useful bits of scavenged alien junk could be, when you though about it. “Only once the process starts, I won’t, so I’m not gonna be able to help you.”
“Well, it was a couple of years ago, and we can’t be one hundred percent sure it’ll work in the same way with a body that’s already human, and I still can’t get hold of the Doctor on his phone. But apart from that I’ve got a pretty good idea, yeah.”
“Some calming bedside manner you’ve got.”
Martha took her hand, and gave it what was obviously meant to be a reassuring squeeze. “I’m sure it’ll be fine.”
“It’s never been done before. We must be nuts.”
“Completely.” They shared a nervous grin. “But when it works…”
“If it works… back to normal. Memories mostly intact, my brain doesn’t go the same was as Amy Winehouse’s dignity, everyone’s a winner. The only bits that get wiped are those when my Time Lord consciousness was active. Including all that nonsense with the Daleks. And now.”
Martha nodded. “Basically. We just can’t risk it.”
“Oh, good,” Donna said, and snogged her.
