Beautiful use of Lovecraft here! It works so well, especially the way you show it all through someone else's eyes -- allows for much more subtlety than Lovecraft himself ever went in for. Eating his sanity rather than himself fits that perfectly.
And thank you for the link! I hadn't read that story before; looks rather as though he was still in his Dunsany phase. Always fascinating to trace influences.
